Camp Turrell April 8, 2011 - April 10, 2011 Tent Camping, Trail Maintenance Service Project, and Good Times
Part 1: Arrival and Morning By Brian Vaivada We arrived here at Camp Turrell about 8:30 PM. I was tired. We set up the Tents and hung out for a little while. We ate some Oreo cookies and then I went to bed. It was somewhat cold. My tent mate was Alphonse. He was cold too, but I only woke up once. I zipped up my sleeping bag and fell back to sleep. I didn't wake up again until Mike, Connor, Alex, and Sean were making a campfire in the morning. We got up and warmed up by the fire. Later, Mr Deignan and Alphonse were teasing eachother, it was funny. It was nice to have a fire n the morning. It warmed me up. W has a flag ceremony, Sean Chelbus said grace- he did a great job . Connor, Alex, and Sean mad pancakes and sausage and hash browns for breakfast; It was delicious and there was plenty of food. I was full. We cleaned up and started our day. The whole morning was fun.
Part 2 Morning to Afternoon By Mike Noone After Breakfast we gathered firewood for a bon fire tonight. I didnít think we have enough wood yet. The fire will be nice. We plan to have the fire in the far corner of the site. Iím looking forward to the fire. Then some of the boys were cutting wood in the ax yard. Then we practiced Knife and Axe and Saw safety. Brian Alphonse and I were goofing off - hanging out listening to Larry sing while he was in the latrine. It was funny. We also took some video and pictures around the site. Then Mr. Squires did some of my First Class Requirements and Mr. Diegnan helped out too. I only have 1 more thing to do Ė lashings. I think the lashings will be hard for me to do. I wasnít feeling so good so I layed down in my tent and rested for awhile. Then I got up and had lunch. It was tasty and delicious. We has grilled cheese and Spicy Nacho Doritoís. We has Sunny D to drink. Brian said grace. He did a good job too. After lunch, Dan tested us for Totin chip. I passed. The weather was real nice - sunny, no clouds, and a little cold. My favorite thing so far today was chopping wood with the ax.

Part 3 The Afternoon and Evening by Alex Squires After lunch we were tested for totin chip. It was easy and fun. I recommend it for other people to do. Dan was my instructor. He did a very good job. Then we went on a very long hike. I think it was about 7 miles. We did a service project Ė painting trail markers. We also cleaned up the trail and improved it, making it more safe. It was a messy job. I got orange paint on my hands and pants. It was oil based paint so it was hard to get off. On the Hike we also did the identification of animals we saw or saw signed of. We saw coyote poop. Then we ran into my dad in the middle of the woods. He helped us find our way back to camp We played basketball and made dinner. We has hamburgers and hot dogs Ė very delicious. My friend Sean agrees. I learned how to light a propane lantern. Mike and Conner both got sick and went home. I felt bad for them. It was a very, very, nice day.
Part 4 Nite by Andrew Squires Sean C, Dan and I set up the charcoal grill to cook burgers, which everyone seemed to enjoy. We also made some hot dogs. Burgers always taste better when they are cooked on the grill. I prefer a propane grill over the charcoal. Anyone that watched King of the Hill knows all the advantages of propane. Then we cleaned up and made a campfire. It was fun but I was tired and went to bed. Some people made símores. Mike Noone had a real good idea with that and did a good job with the food for this trip. Too bad Mike and Connor went home sick. They are good scouts and I like them. I slept fine. I passed out and didnít wake up until sunrise. I must have been tired out from the hike.
Part 5 Sunday Morning by Alex Squires Sean and I were the first ones to wake up in the morning. We got up and built a fire from the coals from last nightís campfire. It was pretty fun. I also made coffee for the adults. Larry was real surprised. We packed up to go home. It didnít take too long. The camp ranger came and inspected the site. He said it was real clean, and we didnít even police it yet. We must have done a great job this weekend. We took down all the ropes and things that were left up in site by the previous campers. When we left, the site was very clean. We ate breakfast. Bagles and donuts. I got to try a piece of Moose meat that Mr Diegnan brought. It was really good. I want to go Moose hunting and shoot a Moose now, or maybe an Elk. I like Elk too. We got a cool looking patch from the camp. It was a great trip. Everything worked out well. I would like to go back to this camp again. I would also like to go to a camp that has a rifle range we can use and has quad riding.
