2015 Friends of Troop 174
2017 New Dates Coming Soon!
Please Take Note:
The Pocono Raceway Volunteer Worker Program in which we participate is not a scouting event, it is not connected to scouting in any way, nor is it a fundraiser. It is not for scouts, it is for adults only. Our workers are also covered under the racetracks volunteer workers compensation insurance policy. I recruit volunteer workers for track events, and in return, Pocono Raceway makes a donation to a non-profit organization of my choosing. In this case I designate Troop 174.
The term "We" as stated above is a collection of volunteers, some of which have nothing to do with Troop 174, but are giving their time to raise money for a non profit organization.. It has become known as "Friends of Troop 174"
Jerry Vaivada, "Friends of Troop 174"
Friends of Troop 174 has participated in the Pocono Raceway Volunteer Worker Program since 1998. This program has since become our way of financing the Troop operations.
This is not a fundraiser, nor is it a scouting function. This program is for adult participation only.
I make a commitment for a set amount of volunteers, in return Pocono Raceway makes a donation to Troop 174.
The commitment is a guarantee. For every volunteer "No Show" we are penalized $25. We must remain dependable. "No Shows" are unacceptable!
The pay range for our volunteers range from $65 to $100 depending on their job. Some of our positions have a 5am start, other 8am.
Our NASCAR and/or INDY CAR Credentials also include weekend camping passes for the infield.
We as employees of the racetrack are covered under their Volunteer Workers Compensation Policy.
All volunteer workers camp in a designated area for employees only. These are three day events, a NASCAR and/or INDY CAR race. We set up a complete kitchen and small city of tents. There are several troop volunteers who arrive a day early to setup in preparation for our arriving volunteers. Since this is not a scouting event and is for adults, you are welcome to bring whatever refreshments you would like. All you need to bring is your sleeping bag. The troop supplies your meals. We have a Troop volunteer who prepares the food for the weekend. .
Welcome everyone to the 2015 season.
Our Volunteer Workers Program at Pocono Raceway has some major changes from what we are accustomed to. Please look forward with these changes.
Troop 174 is now the only designated PFC Team. Thanks to all of our members, we have been asked to increase our PFC Team. We have been asked if we would like to add other groups. We declined; we will use our own people.
The new Director of Operations has a new vision for this entertainment venues future.
I will try to cover as many of the changes that effect our “Friends of Troop 174” organization.

YES, there are many rules and regs to follow! Our main goal is to raise money to support Troop 174. We will try to do our best to make it fun and enjoyable for all of us while doing so.
You must stop at RV Registration on Long Pond Road just after turning off RT 115. Present your ticket and state that you are with Volunteer Group Troop 174.
Working at Pocono Raceway does not need any previous experience. When you plan to volunteer, don’t just show up to work. We need your commitment to do the right thing. Our group is known by management, and I believe we may be treated better than other groups.. We do not wish to change it!
The jobs are easy and simple. We need to be courteous to all customers. We need to treat them as guest. Some of our customers spend large amount of cash and should be treated properly!
How do we get paid?
I will be receiving a report after each race on the day and position you worked. About a month after the third race of the season, a total check will be issued to Troop 174. At our Fall Court of Honor, we will personally thank you for your support!
If you have any questions, ask me at any meeting or I can be reached at 973-534-3418.
I will be arriving at the track on Thursday afternoon sometime, we can always help you to get there.
Thanks ………. Jerry
